Southern Illinois track and field kicked off the 2012-13 indoor track season with a strong showing at the Saluki Fast Start, taking nine total titles Saturday at the SIU Recreation Center.

Saluki Track and Field opens the indoor season at home on Saturday with the Saluki Fast Start, with competition beginning with the field events at 10 a.m. in the SIU Recreation Center.

Junior Saluki cross country student-athlete Brian Dixon competed in the NCAA Nationals in Louisville, Ky., today, finishing 143rd out of 245 runners.

The NCAA announced Saturday that Southern Illinois cross country athlete Brian Dixon was one of 38 individuals to qualify for the national championship meet next Saturday in Louisville, Ky.

Southern Illinois cross country ended the 2012 season Friday at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Springfield, Mo., with the men finishing ninth and the women 12th.

Saluki Cross Country travels today to Missouri State in Springfield, Mo., for the NCAA Midwest Regional races tomorrow.

Brian Dixon and Cassie Rushing have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. Dixon and Rushing were honored for their performances during the period of October 22-28.

Southern Illinois cross country had four student-athletes named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete list, the Valley announced Tuesday.
